Lantern Brewing is a Craft Malt Certified Brewery
We are excited to announce that with the sponsorship of Skagit Valley Malting, Lantern Brewing has been recognized by the Craft Maltsters Guild as a Certified Craft Malt Brewery.
From our inception we have focused on creating unique beer from the best local ingredients, and that mission has always put malt front and center. Being a Certified Craft Malt Brewery is about furthering our commitment to buying local, sustainable ingredients. It’s about ensuring our beer, though made to honor the traditions of Belgian and French styles, is connected to the diverse cultures of Cascadia.
To be part of the Craft Malting Guild, brewers have to use a minimum of 10% craft malt. At Lantern Brewing, we use at least 55% craft malt and up to 95% in some of our beers. When we do buy and use industrial malt, we strive to buy identity-preserved malt, or in other words, malt that is still specific to Washington state and the Pacific Northwest. As we continue to brew, we are always looking for ways to source and use 100% local ingredients.
With the support of the craft malt community, we will continue to make distinct and diverse beers. Our hope is that as other breweries use more craft malt, the local food economy will prosper, ensuring the market for local grain and malt remains strong. We’d like to thank Skagit Valley Malting for sponsoring us and the Craft Maltsters Guild for welcoming us into the craft malt community. We are honored to help forward the progress of this mission.
