Winter Solstice 2024: Special Tasting Flights
December 20 and 21, 2024: Tonight and tomorrow only, we continue our annual winter solstice tradition of offering special bottle pour flights of our reserve quadrupel and tripel abbey style ales…
Sombre abbey style quadrupel, deep dark bold bodied and hugely flavored ales brewed with tons of medium and dark malts and long-aged in barrel and bottle to condition and evolve…we’ll have four years worth of bottled Sombres: 2015, 2016, 2019, and 2020 (Pluotnium) to share.
Palatine abbey style tripel, brewed with almost triple the normal amount of Craft Malt from the PNW to give a richness and complexity riding on a lighter-hued, medium-bodied ale.
Orondo Furioso, our abbey style tripel barrel-aged with whole fresh Washington apricots, brings yet another facet to our dark-and-light lineup with its apricot and oak aromatic notes and the bold and balanced set of flavors.
Balance and moderation are the tone of the night— the Quadrupels range from 9.5 to 11.5% a/v, and the tripels from 10% to 11% alcohol by volume.
These will be offered as choices in special four- or six-style bottle-poured tasting flights for this annual extravaganza! We hope you will join us as we mark the turning back of our seasons from darker and darker to lighter and lighter days ahead!

Craft Malt Month Session 3: Craft Malt vs. Big Malt
Explore Malt with us! Session 3 of our Craft Malt series is this Sunday: Craft Malt vs. Goliath
We'll look at the role of Craft Malt in brewing and find answers to:
What is Craft Malt and what is Industrial Malt, and how much of each is made?
Who owns those malting businesses and where are they headquartered?
Why might some breweries choose to use Craft Malts and others non-Craft malts?
Who benefits from the use of Craft Malt versus Industrial Malt?
And much more, with integrated trivia breaks and hands-on materials to play with.
Happy Hour specials from 3-6pm, talk starts at 4pm.

Craft Malt Month Session 2: What is malt, exactly?
Last week we soared over the field crops of the world to get an overview of them and then focused in on barley and its role as the ‘malting grain.’
This week we dive down to pounce on the next question: What is malt?
We will develop answers to that by looking at malt at the scale of one grain at a time. We’ll look at the natural processes that underlie malting— the urge to procreate— and we’ll discuss the sneaky ways in which people have coopted these natural urges in the ‘malting process’ to yield what we then call ‘malted grain’ or often just plain ‘malt.’
We’ll step through some of the process details that transform raw grains, especially barley, into the large spectrum of malts available today, and we’ll all be able to confidently answer ‘what is malt’ by the end of this session.

Craft Malt Month Session 1: What's Barley? Why Barley?
We're kicking off the Craft Malt Month Sunday Happy Hour Sessions on September 8th when we open the doors at 3pm, followed at 4pm with the 'lightning talk' around the questions "What is barley-- and why barley??"

Craft Malt Month Sessions: Show Craft Malt Some Love
September 2024 is the inaugural Craft Malt Month, so get your grain brain amped up with big knowledge on Craft Malt and what it means to Craft Beer!
We have been allied with local malt producers and the Craft Maltsters Guild for many years (looking at you LINC Malts and Mainstem Malt! And missing SVM, RIP) We've been a Craft Malt Certified Brewery since 2020-- so we're keen to share the whys, hows, and wheres on malt because it matters way more deeply than most of us realize. Even if you don't like "malty beer" you're making an impact on the local economy as well as the ecology of our region with every beer you order-- so come be a part of some of the most impactful conversations about beer that you're likely to have this year.
Spend a half hour on each of the next few Sundays with us for a 'lightning talk' plus a follow-on Q&A session to explore a diverse range of topics centered around Craft Malt… learn more about this most important ingredient in all beer -- you'll never look at, think about, or taste your beer in quite the same way! All of these "Craft Malt Happy Hour" sessions will run from 3-5pm, with the first hour for finding a spot and choosing a beer before the 'main event' from 4-5pm. We'll have happy hour specials on all of the Craft Malt based beer on our menu (i.e. all of it) plus special deals on the Craft Malt beer du jour, all day.
We'll progress through the month with sessions pondering these questions--
What is barley? …and why barley? (8th Sept)
What is malt, exactly? (15th Sept)
Why no Craft Beer without Craft Malt? (22nd Sept)
What’s in the future for Craft Malt, and for Craft Beer? (29th Sept)
We’ll work in hands-on activities and demonstrations and at least one special malt tasting event during the month… more info on each session posted as they get nearer…
